THE STABILIZED OXYGEN STORY

During the course of man's history there have been scientific discoveries contributing significantly to human health. Such a discovery is the process of making stabilized electrolytes of oxygen. Stabilized Oxygen is a product often confused with Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) but vastly different in its mode of action, variety of uses and safety.

Stabilized Oxygen or S.O. is a breed of super oxygenating products developed initially by Dr. William F. Koch, M.D., Ph.D. It was designed to destroy any known and unknown micro-organisms with a minimum dose, yet maintain its safety to the host.
In addition to being Stabilized Oxygen's discoverer, this European medical doctor, scientist and humanitarian dedicated his life to the treatment of mentally retarded children.

He believed a shortage of oxygen to the brain cells to be one of the major causes of retardation, and devoted 15 years to the research and development of another process besides breathing for supplying oxygen to the brain. His formula produced non-toxic stabilized electrolytes of oxygen, identical to those in the respiration process. After developing stabilized oxygen, the doctor used it in his practice for ten years.

Healthy body with stabilized oxygenThe formula found its way to the United States where over the years it was formulated into products. S.O. was incorporated into these formulas because the non-toxic form of stabilized oxygen was an alternative to toxic chemical preservatives in aloe vera health aids, skin care products and in foods and beverages. It is now marketed as a bactericide, an oxygenating health supplement and a water disinfectant.

"Is it safe?" you may ask. The simple answer is 'Yes'. Unlike its distant relative, H2O2, all research and patient trials conducted reveal no problems with prolonged usage of S.O.

"How does it work?" Very simply, by releasing chlorite ions, trace amounts of sodium and chlorine dioxide, plus substantial amounts of molecular oxygen into the blood plasma. This reaction is triggered when the alkaline S.O. (pH 12.5) comes into contact with the strong acids found in the stomach (pH 3). It becomes highly unstable and breaks down immediately.

S.O. is helpful in a myriad of ways besides its obvious anti-bacterial anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. For example, it can be added to contaminated water (20-30 drops per liter) and left to stand for 24 hours to completely neutralize any potentially harmful water-borne pathogens that may be present. You can imagine how beneficial this is for anyone travelling to third world countries where Giardia Lamblia is a real problem.

Stabilized Oxygen's uses in clinical practice offer a new tool to the practitioner wanting to accelerate the results of herbal, vitamin, enzyme and mineral supplements, while providing an outstanding prophylactic to the general public. Typically the areas of highest efficacy are in the treatment of Herpes, Candida, the flu, low grade chest infections, colds, Asthma and Eczema.

Stabilized Oxygen is listed as stabilized electrolytes of oxygen, so it makes good sense to explain what an "electrolyte" is. An electrolyte is any substance that dissolves in water and conducts electricity.

Science is not certain what role ferromagnetism plays in oxygen's affinity for the iron in the red blood cell, but there is little doubt that permanent magnetism as well as electromagnetism plays a role. When an electrolyte dissolves, it releases an equal number of negatively charged and positively charged atoms called ions. The two most common electrolytes in human blood plasma and body fluids are sodium and chlorine.

The body fluid balance is extremely important to life and health, and electrolytes play a key role in maintaining that natural balance. Physiologists know that "where sodium goes, water soon follows." If the concentration of sodium in the plasma goes down, the volume of blood fluid goes down.

The balance of oppositely charged particles - positive ions to negative ions - is what determines acidity or alkalinity or pH. All water solutions contain both hydrogen ions (positive) and hydroxyl (one hydrogen and one oxygen) ions (negative).

A pH of 7 means there is an equal number of these ions present so that the solution is neither alkaline nor acid. As hydrogen goes up, oxygen goes down. The pH of stabilized oxygen is between 12.6 and 13 - it is very alkaline, which is one reason why the oxygen has excellent stability.

Stabilized Oxygen is a high concentrate of oxygen - oxygen in the molecular form. Just like the oxygen that is breathed from the atmosphere through the lungs, changed to oxygen molecules and deposited in the blood. In this form the oxygen molecules move from the blood to the iron atoms on the red blood cells and then to the cells of the body.

The correct source of energy for all cells in the body is oxygen. Stabilized Oxygen actually puts oxygen in the blood without the process of breathing. It cannot over-oxidize the cells because the iron atoms on the red cells can only release the amount of oxygen which the cells can use. When taken orally Stabilized Oxygen is non-toxic.

To understand the real value of the oxygen in Stabilized Oxygen, one must understand the effect of oxygen on each type of bacteria. There are innumerable bacteria represented in each type. Aerobic bacteria are the friendly bacteria - the beneficial bacteria of the soil, the earth, the water, the food, and the body. Aerobic bacteria are the normal flora of the body and cannot survive without the presence of oxygen.

Anaerobic bacteria are the disease, infectious, putrefying and contamination bacteria of the earth in water, food and in the body. Anaerobic bacteria cannot survive in the presence of oxygen. However, there are anaerobic bacteria which can live in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, but they are not disease and infectious bacteria. They could be part of the normal flora of the skin and of the bowel.

"How does oxygen actually kill anaerobic bacteria?" First, these micro-organisms possess an electrical charge. An oxygen molecule is short an electron on its outer orbit. Build up the oxygen in the blood and the oxygen molecule will seek out the infectious or putrefying bacteria and pull the electron away from the outer protective membrane of the micro-organism. This is known as cell lysing. The result is a dead bacteria.

Science has yet to discover an anaerobic disease, infectious or putrefying bacteria that Stabilized Oxygen does not kill. It is the only non-toxic virtually tasteless product known that will kill these harmful bacteria in a person's body without killing the beneficial bacteria. In fact, stabilized oxygen actually stimulates the growth and development of the normal flora since they require oxygen.

Bio Magnetic Mineral Oxides is a more technical name for the nontoxic stabilized electrolytes of oxygen in molecular form. They are effective against salmonella, cholera, E. coli, streptococcus, pseudomonas and staphylococcus, giardia lamblia. It can be used as a spray on foods that are easily contaminated with bacteria, such as fish, chicken, etc. It is effective for spraying on food work tables to retard bacterial growth.

Professional Services Industries, Inc. of Arlington Texas tested Stabilized Oxygen against a viable culture of Giardia Lamblia (Laboratory report # 83-53222-1 dated January 10, 1985). Stabilized Oxygen effectively kills in just 2.5 minutes 100% of Giardia Lamblia at concentrations of 1x105, 1x106 and 1x107 organisms/ml of tap water containing 10 drops of Stabilized Oxygen. At a concentration of 5 drops of Stabilized Oxygen, it took 3 minutes for the culture to be 100% destroyed.

At Science Research Center of Abilene, Texas on May 24, 1984, Stabilized Oxygen was tested against five intestinal pathogens. Salmonella, typhl, Viberia cholerae, Campylobacter fetus, ss jejuni and Escherichio coli. All of these are common water born pathogens which cause the majority of the acute gastrointestinal illnesses and are responsible for deaths of a large number of children in many countries where untreated water is used.

When pure distilled water is inoculated with these organisms, the water requires three times the recommended amount to sterilize within three hours. Apparently the high organic content of raw water appears to interfere with the bacterial action of the active components.

One study showed that Stabilized Oxygen treatment can be used effectively to treat contaminated water and the amount of material needed to effectively destroy all pathogens is dependent on the amount of organic matter found in the water and also on the total amount of bacteria present.

Much in the way that other dietary vitamin and mineral supplements enhance different body functions, Stabilized Oxygen can act as a supplement to the body's total function by adding oxidation potential. Since its action occurs at a fundamental cellular level, it can assist the body to fight a variety of infectious agents.

Research has determined that it may also act as a very effective scavenger of toxic free radicals from environmental sources or those that are normally reproduced within the body itself. S.O. is known to release simple mineral agents that appear to be active against bacteria and fungi as well as a number of viruses.

Oxygen deficiency, or oxygen starvation, can be the single greatest cause of disease. Oxygen plays a critical role in the proper functioning of the immune system. It is the source of life and energy to all cells. Bodily abuse through eating and drinking habits including pollutants and toxic preservative in our water and food, air pollution, use of drugs and lack of exercise can greatly reduce the amount of oxygen available to the cells.

When there is insufficient oxygen to support the health of a cell, the cell turns to another source of energy, usually sugar fermentation. This is an undesirable source of energy which upsets the metabolism of the cell. It causes the cell to start manufacturing improper chemicals, and soon a whole group of cells is unhealthy and weak.

They lose their natural immune ability. They open their doors to the invasion of viruses, for a virus can only develop within a cell. Thus development of a shortage of oxygen in the blood could very well be the starting point for the loss of the immune system and the beginning of feared health problems such as cancer, leukemia, aids, seizures, nerve deterioration, etc.

Once you are in an oxygen depleted state, you may suffer from toxic headaches, swollen lymph glands and nodes, and on your way to serious "osis" diseases, i.e., arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis and multiple sclerosis. Amyotrophic lateral allergies, colds and possible migraine headaches occur at this early stage and signal the beginning of the breakdown of the immune system.

What compounds these problems in the body is oxygen deprivation and lack of antioxidants such as Vitamins C, E, SOD and Selenium. Eating processed foods that are deficient in oxygen and nutrients causes the oxygen to be depleted in the blood stream as the body builds up lactic acid, the acid of fatigue and sore muscles or acidosis.

Antioxidants help to restore oxygen as does iron, which is an oxygen transporter, to keep the lactic acid level low, these problems can all benefit from using Stabilized Oxygen in water or juice.

The use of antibiotics, particularly such broad spectrum ones as tetracycline, provide a short-term relief of infection, but are countered by a possible long-term negative. The antibiotics may not be killing the target bacteria, but may be converting them to pleomorphic forms (L forms), which may not only reactivate at a later date, but may continue to produce toxins which can lead to a URS condition (Universal Reactor Syndrome).

The conversion of bacteria to such L forms may be providing relief of symptoms - but at the same time setting the stage for a later pathology. The mechanism of Stabilized Oxygen involves utilization of chlorite by cells, particularly leukocytes, as a substrate to increase the efficiency of a group of enzymes known as peroxidases. These enzymes are an important component in the immune system since they are involved in the oxidation of foreign material (e.g., viruses).

What better way to illustrate the multitude of uses of Stabilized Oxygen than to allow an experienced practitioner to recount a few clinical experiences? Dr. John Muntz, Ph.D., ND, DO has presented the following passage. "The more I prescribe Stabilized Oxygen for my patients, the more varied the conditions for which I prescribe it, the more success I seem to have with it.
However, I am learning by experience to vary considerably the dosage according to the condition for which I prescribe it, the severity of the condition and according to the patient for whom I prescribe it. I have also found that Stabilized Oxygen seems to enhance greatly the effectiveness of other remedies such as homeopathic remedies, herbs and nutritional remedies. In the case histories below I shall indicate the dosage I prescribed in each condition.

An eleven year old boy was brought to me by his mother. His abdomen was covered with sores, which on examination looked very much like infected insect bites. As well as the sores, the skin of the abdomen was highly inflamed. I prescribed 5 drops of Stabilized Oxygen three times a day together with a homeopathic remedy. It took two days for the inflammation to disappear and another four days for the sores to disappear.

The next concerns an elderly female patient with breathing difficulties. She had been up until recently a heavy smoker and although she had eventually given up smoking, was showing symptoms of emphysema. She could no longer do anything which required even a little exertion.

At night she would have to prop herself up in bed to get enough air to enable her to sleep. As she was reluctant to take any - as she described it -'new fangled' medicine, I prescribed 8 drops of Stabilized Oxygen in a glass of water once a day. After a few days, she telephoned me and told me she was feeling much better and for the first time in months, had the previous night, slept lying down.

She was so pleased that I took the opportunity to increase the intake of S.O. to 8 drops morning and night. I felt that this was as far as I could go for the time being. A fortnight later I saw her. She was a changed person. She looked bright and happy, her symptoms were greatly reduced and she said she felt wonderful.

Because of its oxygenating properties, S.O. seems to me that it should be an ideal anticoagulant in much the same way as vitamin E is. I was able recently to try out my theory. One of my patients was suffering from a thrombosis in the left leg.
Because of a number of other conditions his medical advisors had been unable to treat successfully the thrombosis. I suggested he take 15 drops of Stabilized Oxygen in water three times a day. After six weeks treatment the thrombosis had markedly reduced and the pain it had caused had all but disappeared. I must point out that there were no contraindications for the use of Stabilized Oxygen in any of his other medical conditions.

Psoriasis is a difficult condition to treat because often it is a psychological condition only. However, more often than not it is a combination of the physical and psychological. Where it is more physical than psychological or purely physical, I have found that Stabilized Oxygen is of great help in clearing up the condition.

Recently, I had a patient with psoriasis over her left foot extending over her ankle and on the side of her right foot. I prescribed 15 drops of Stabilized Oxygen in water three times a day and 5 drops to 20 drops of water applied topically. She returned to see me in four weeks.

The rash had all but disappeared, the redness had turned to pink, the crusts had gone and the peeling had ceased. One might say that the Stabilized Oxygen was successful because the patient believed it would be - not with this patient. She was sure it would not be successful. She had tried so many remedies without success, she was skeptical of all others.

Nevertheless, I am sure that with the success she had, the psychological boost the initial success gave, helped to do wonders, as it does with all successful remedies.
I have had a number of cases of swollen glands referred to me. Some of these have been post influenza in origin, others taking on the early symptoms of mumps. All cases have been with children between the ages of seven and fifteen.

In each case I have prescribed 8 drops in water three times a day and a gargle of 12 drops in water. The success of this treatment has been spectacular. To quote one case of a fourteen year old girl with mumps symptoms, the symptoms disappeared in two days. Another, a patient with post influenza swollen glands which had persisted for four weeks, the symptoms disappeared again in two days.

Asthma patients in my clinic have reported energy increases within the first week of treatment. This has been followed in many cases by a noticeable increase in their peak-flow rates.

The same degree of success has been noted by a number of other practitioners, not only with asthma, but also eczema and psoriasis. I can't emphasize enough, however, the need to ensure the topical applications for chronic skin diseases are diluted at least 1:10 - 1:15. Alkaline burns may result if this precaution isn't strictly adhered to.

I have now successfully treated so many patients and such a wide variety of conditions with Stabilized Oxygen that I am convinced this is one of the most versatile tools that we have at our disposal in the natural health field."
Experiments by Dr. J. Berg, Stanford University, support the work of Dr. L. P. Hager, University of Illinois; namely, the chlorite contained in our S.O. significantly improves the efficiency of the two enzymes, chloroperoxidase and peroxidase, as well as utilizing myeloperoxidase in the leukocytes.

There are two interesting outcomes of chlorite utilization by these enzymes. The first is that the immune system may be directly enhanced by the increased rate of oxidation of foreign material by the leukocytes. The second result is an increased ability by all metabolically active cells to scavenge free radicals.

According to a report by S. Harakeh, Ph.D. of Stanford, the rate of removal of the superoxide radicals by superoxide dismutase (SOD) will be increased as the peroxide removal is enhanced by the chlorite (CLO2).

The resulting increased efficiency of removal of free radicals is interesting in light of the contemporary theories attributing the cause of disease debilitating aspects of aging and onset of cancer to excessive levels of free radicals. The source of the free radicals may be environmental or metabolic.

Toxic Free Radicals are harmful free electrons which researchers feel can join with other atoms producing mutations which are harmful to the body. Leading researchers also concur on the theory that toxic free radicals may be responsible for a vast range of human ailments.

The chlorite, a major constituent of Stabilized Oxygen, and one of its reaction products, chlorine dioxide, are extremely effective viricides, bactericides, and fungicides. Chlorine dioxide has been shown to be extremely effective against pathogenic bacteria e.g., legionella pneumophilia and enteric viruses like poliovirus in our laboratory . Its effectiveness against other viruses also has been demonstrated.
In 1983 Dr. James D. Berg at the Department of Medical Microbiology, Stanford University School of Medicine, completed several studies on Stabilized Oxygen. Dr.

erg, holder of two doctorates in medical microbiology and environmental engineering, had been asked to explore the reasons why S.O. is so successful in treating human and animal disease conditions and in maintaining good health.

The scientific literature on the nature of chlorine dioxide and other chlorine chemistry is extensive, but studies on the chlorine ion and its role in human biochemistry are limited. Nevertheless, Dr. Berg's conclusions more than adequately support the existing literature. The following passage is by James D. berg. Ph.D.

"I shall summarize some potential mechanisms for S.O. as a therapeutic agent. The three hypotheses that follow are based on my research with chlorine dioxide and S.O., the research that has been conducted in other laboratories, and the hundreds of testimonials that have been obtained describing the efficacy of S.O. in the treatment of a variety of disorders.

The first hypothesis addresses the topical application for the treatment of burns, abrasions and allergic reactions. The last two hypotheses primarily describe potential mechanisms following ingestion or when applied topically for the treatment of bacterial and viral infections.

When applied topically Stabilized Oxygen may act as an osmotic agent similar to the application of epsom salts. The concentrations of salts in the S.O. even when applied in a 1% solution, is quite high. The ensuing osmotic gradient would be a sufficient driving force for the removal of toxins and allergenic substances from the skin.
The same gradient may in a similar way promote healing by increasing the rate of transport of factors involved in healing in the case of abrasions and burns. The aforementioned mechanism may appear simple, nonetheless it may partially explain the promotion of healing and desensitization of burns and rashes that have been documented.

Secondly, in either topical or internal use, the S. O. can act as a non-specific biocide. The chlorine, a major constituent of S.O. and one of its reaction products, chlorine dioxide are extremely effective viricides, bactericides and fungicides. We have shown chlorine dioxide to be extremely effective against pathogenic bacteria such as legionella pneumophila and viruses such as the polio virus in our laboratory. Its effectiveness against other viruses also has been demonstrated.

At physiological pH, the predominant chemical species will be chlorine ion. The chlorine is biocidal, yet less toxic to pathogens than chlorine dioxide since it is a less powerful oxidant in the ionic form. At the pH of the stomach (pH 3-4) one can expect chlorine dioxide to be produced from the chlorides.

This will be a transient phenomenon ultimately yielding chlorine ion again. This will be absorbed by the body, passed through the lower gastrointestinal tract and excreted by the kidneys. If a substantial dose of S.O. has been taken one could hypothesize that the chlorine and chlorine dioxide would act against any pathogenic microorganisms in the body. This may explain the effectiveness of S. O. in lessening the severity and duration of the gastrointestinal diseases such as diarrhea, flu and so forth that have been reported.

The third potential mechanism of S.O. involves utilization of chlorine by cells, particularly leukocytes, as a substrate to increase the efficiency of a group of enzymes known as peroxidases. These enzymes are an important component in the immune system since they are involved in the oxidation of foreign material such as viruses and toxins.

Our experiments with S.O. were modeled after the work of Dr. Lowell P. Hager, U. of Illinois on chlorine and our results support his findings. That is S.O. or the chlorine it contains significantly improves the efficiency of the two enzymes, chloroperoxidase and peroxidase. The reactions of another model system utilizing myeloperoxidase in the leukocytes is shown to increase the activity of this enzyme.

There are two interesting outcomes of chlorite utilization by these enzymes. The first is that the immune system may be directly enhanced by the increased rate of oxidation of foreign material by the leukocytes. The second result is an increased ability by all metabolically active cells to scavenge free radicals.

The rate of removal of superoxide radicals by superoxide dismutase (SOD) will be increased as the peroxide removal is enhanced by the chlorite. The latter result, increased efficiency of removal of free radicals, is interesting in light of some contemporary theories attributing the cause of disease, debilitating aspects of aging and onset of cancer to excessive levels of free radicals.

These three possible mechanisms are of course, not exclusive of one another. It is quite probable that all three act simultaneously. There are also undoubtedly other more complex mechanisms. However, the available data on chlorite is limited, therefore only the three aforementioned mechanisms have been proposed."

Dr. Lowell P. Hager, Head of Biochemistry Department, University of Illinois, wrote the following: "We have tested S.O. with both horseradish peroxidase and chloroperoxidase and find that it contains a substrate which will support enzymatic halogenation.

We are reasonably certain that the substrate is chlorite. If there is a similar enzyme or enzymes on the surface of the skin or in the bacteria of fungi themselves, you have a good basis for the antimicrobial activities of Stabilized Oxygen. That mechanism would be the generation of an enzyme bound chlorinating species which would be very toxic for microorganisms. In humans, in the white blood cells, there is an enzyme called myeloperoxidase which kills ingested microorganisms by a similar chlorination process."

Additionally, Dr. Anderson Peoples, Professor of Pharmacology, University of California, Davis, wrote of S.O. as follows: "I have concluded that as a bactericide and/or fungicide, it works primarily on the basis of oxidation, apparently being able to supply stimulus to the organism's own physiological response as well as offering oxidative capacity at the cellular level.

We consider S.O. to be in the category of a pro-biotic, as opposed to an antibiotic. One which, standing alone and in vitro, appears to have relatively low levels of efficacy against various organisms as, for example, when compared with sodium hypochlorite. Where utilized in vivo, however, it combines with the natural body functions and immune responses to become an effective medication with virtually no toxicity or side-effects."

Finally, Dr. Gilbert Gordon, Chairman of the Department of Chemistry, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio and one of the world's leading chlorine experts, analyzed the chemistry of the S. O. formula. He wrote briefly on the non-toxic aspects of S.O. as follows: "...The solid residuals from the S.O. are composed of sodium chloride, sodium oxide and sodium sulfate.

The solution originally contains substantial amounts of sodium chloride which is also the end product of the decomposition of each of the oxychlorine compounds. Thus during and after the decomposition no new compounds of chlorine are formed and only more sodium chloride is formed adding to the already present sodium chloride pool.

This provides a very safe and efficacious release of the appropriate oxides of chlorine (chlorite). These oxides, formed in situ are ready to do their job without interference or complications. As nearly everyone knows, sodium chloride is simple table salt. The amounts of salt in 20 drops of S.O. is about 40 milligrams, making it safe "low salt" product."

The most common recommended use of Stabilized Oxygen is for immune protection, which is becoming increasingly important in this world of virulent flu's and rampant candida. S.O. is an excellent preventative as attested to by the experience of the thousands who discovered Stabilized Oxygen in a time of need and found how refreshing it is to feel healthy and aerobic.

They then decided to make it part of their daily regimen. What is particularly important is that S.O. has proven effective where antibiotic resistant strains of common viruses have been encountered. As with any oxidative modality S.O. should be used along with a quality antioxidant such as vitamin E, vitamin A, Selenium, Co-enzyme Q-10 or S.O.D. Many brands of better quality supplements offer these nutrients in immune boosting formulas - read the labels carefully.

An effective topical solution is .2 oz. of Bio Magnetic Mineral Oxides (S.O.) to 10 oz. of water. This makes a 2% solution. The recommended dose for internal therapeutic use is 8-10 drops taken in 250 mls or 8 ounces of water 2-3 times daily.

Add the drops to an empty glass then fill with water. This is rather important as the S.O. is lighter in density than water and unless properly dispersed in solution, will tend to float on the surface. Topical applications should be diluted at least 1:5 or 1:10 if skin is sensitive or broken.

Only use Stabilized Oxygen on the face and/or neck when diluted 1:10 or weaker and always test a small patch of affected skin first, just to be sure. Because of its' effectiveness at oxidizing blood borne pathogens and stimulating the oxygenation that is necessary for proper metabolism, S.O. is affectionately known as "Vitamin O" by oxygen enthusiasts worldwide.

The reason for this is when it is taken every day it acts as a prophylactic against disease and provides the vitality that people are looking for to enjoy today's demanding lifestyles.
