One of Nature’s Healers
Written by Ed McCabe

This article is going to give you a thorough understanding of why magnets are used in the healing arts. Currently there are widely diverse opinions about how magnets are to be employed, and why they are effective when used properly in healing work. After attending hundreds of Expos and medical meetings around the world, I have sat in on many lectures by experts in the field of using magnetics to heal. The reason I was interested in going to all these lectures on magnets and continually studying and experimenting with magnetics, was the correlation that kept popping up between magnets and our favorite subject, OXYGEN. Bottom line, magnets, when understood and used properly, bring oxygen to the site of injury or disease, while draining away toxins, and this of course, as we all know, is the basis of aiding the repair of our bodies, and eliminates offending toxins and diseased structures. Oxygen as we all know has tremendous analgesic or pain relieving properties.
For centuries, countless cures, or at least improvements, have been reported and documented from the use of magnets, so there is definitely something there, despite the lack of interest by the scientific community. I have seen too many case studies, before and after pictures, and heard too many positive testimonials that I simply can’t ignore. Just plain folks have persistently used magnets for centuries, so the persistent use of magnets proves there must be benefits! People usually don’t cling to things that don’t work, especially for centuries.

DR. D.W. Ramey, DVM, has written: One of the more popular therapies for the treatment of a variety of conditions in human and veterinary medicine is the application of a magnetic field. The biological effects of low‑level magnetic fields have been studied since the 1500s. The crucial question, however, is whether these effects have any physiological significance. Many claims have been made for the therapeutic effectiveness of magnetic field.

The History of Magnets

Throughout history, man has believed magnets are beneficial for the relief of various ailments.

Magnetic therapy was described in books written by Homer, Hippocrates and Aristotle. “Magnets” were named after a Greek shepherd named Magnes who noticed the nails in his sandals became attracted to a magnetic rock or Lodestone. He was passing a large rock, and found his iron mounted staff being pulled towards it by an unknown force. He had to exert all his strength in order to tear it away. This rock was named the magnet stone. It is said that being very amazed by the force and wishing to make use of it, he inserted pieces of the stone inside the soles of his sandals and this enabled him to cover long distances at one stretch without feeling tired. The early use of magnetism is recorded in Chinese writings around 2000 BC
As early as 200 BC Greek physician Galen’s writings, “De Simplicium Medicamentorum” mention magnetic energies being used in purgative arrests and openings. This predates the study of acupuncture, which began between AD 140 and 150. Healers in ancient China, India and Egypt used natural magnets to treat a wide variety of ailments. Aristotle wrote about the therapeutic value of magnets, & Cleopatra supposedly wore a lodestone on her forehead to prevent aging!

The modern idea that magnetic therapy could be used to treat disease began in the early 16th century with the Swiss physician, philosopher, and alchemist Paracelsus, who used magnets to treat epilepsy, diarrhea, and hemorrhage. Magnetic therapy became more popular in the mid‑18th century when Franz Mesmer, an Austrian doctor who also helped begin the fields of hypnotism and psychoanalysis opened a popular magnetic healing salon in Paris. In this salon, Mesmer from whose name the word "mesmerize" was coined, treated the untoward effects of the body's innate "animal magnetism." In spite of continued condemnation by the scientific community, magnetic therapy became a popular form of treatment by the lay community.
In the U.S., interest in magnets was made popular by Benjamin Franklin’s experiments with electricity. In 1799, Elisha Perkins, a Connecticut physician and sometime mule trader, advocated the use of "metallic tractors" for the treatment of various diseases of humans and horses. The user of the tractors which, were small metal magnetic wedges, swept them over the injured area for a few minutes to "draw off the noxious electrical fluid that lay at the foot of suffering." Subjects and observers perceived immediate benefits. They reported their testimonials and Perkins became very rich. Magnetic tractors failed to prevent Dr. Perkins' death due to yellow fever in 1799. There is no evidence of anyone claiming virus eradication with magnets.

In the late 1800s, the Sears catalogue advertised magnetic boot inserts. Magnetic caps and clothing that contained over 700 magnets were available by mail order from Thatcher's Chicago Magnetic Company. Dr. Thatcher asserted that "magnetism properly applied will cure every curable disease no matter what the cause." At the turn of the 20th century, Dr. Albert Abrams, postulated that each organ system and patient was "tuned" to a characteristic electromagnetic wavelength. By the time of World War II, physiologic effects of electromagnetic fields no longer received much attention in medical journals.

The modern literature is full of testimony on the benefits of magnets. According to the experiences of Ron Lawrence, M.D. at the North American Academy of Magnetic Therapy millions use magnets to obtain comfort for arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and injuries. He also says magnets; Increase blood flow through heating the magnetized area. Diminish pain through heating and possibly stabilizing the autonomic nervous system. Speed healing by boosting the body’s synthesis of ATP and enhancing the ability of the blood to carry oxygen. They relieve arthritis pain and slow the deterioration of cartilage inside arthritic joints. Tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome and other tendon or ligament problems heal faster when wrapped in magnetic bandages. In some hospitals powerful electromagnets are being used to speed healing of stubborn bone fractures. Magnetic therapy also seems to promote regeneration of spinal disk tissue. Regular use of magnets helps prevent the violent allergic reaction in the lungs that is characteristic of bronchial asthma. He also says professional athletes like Dan Marino rely on magnets to comfort pain and inflammation.

Quarterback Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins wrapped magnets around his ankle for quick healing. Now the whole team uses them. Coach Jimmy Johnson sleeps on a magnetic bed under the direction of Ryan Vermillion, Director of Rehabilitation for the Dolphins, with the approval of Dr. John Uribe, Chief Orthopedic Surgeon.
Magnetic therapy is accepted and widely used in Germany, Italy, England, France, Spain, Australia and Russia. In Japan alone, there are over 30 million families using magnetic therapy on a daily basis. There are at least 100 million users worldwide. Magnetic therapy is and has been used around the world on thoroughbred horses to aid in the healing of leg and spine injuries. It has been used in the training rooms of most of the National Football League teams, in the treating of major and minor injuries.

Recently, magnets have been written up in Time Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, USA Today, the New York Times, as well as appearing on ABC Evening News, 20/20, The Regis and Kathy Lee Show, as well as hundreds of regional and national news shows -- with all reporting being positive.

New York Yankees pitcher, Hideki Irabus, wears magnets on his arm and other parts of his body when pitching. All Pro safety for the Denver Broncos, Steve Atwater, sleeps on a magnetic bed to help with his daily aches and pains. All Pro and Hall of Fame defensive back, Ronni Lott, credits magnets for prolonging his great career. Jim Colbert, pro golfer on the Senior Tour, plays with a magnetic back support to relieve the chronic back pain he has had for years. Bob Murphy, whose arthritis had forced him to retire, returned to the Pro Tour after finding relief with magnetic therapy.
Dr. Kurt Vreland, doctor for the U.S. Olympic Ski jumping teams, has used magnets with good results on everything from rotator cuff injuries to "hip pointers." Heavyweight Champion of the World, Evander Holyfield, uses magnets to speed up his recovery rate after each workout.

Although magnets have many people who have used them with benefit for their whole lives, the range of reasons why they work are still speculated upon widely. Some propose that the magnets affect pain receptors in the joints, muscles or brain. Others believe they stimulate acupuncture points. Many say they promote healing by stimulating blood flow to the affected region, which brings extra oxygen and nutrients and reduces inflammation as toxins are flushed out. I personally agree with all of them.

I like the approaches becoming popular based on what I have been teaching during the last decade, because they agree with my basic tenet. “The further we get away from Nature, the worse we are. The closer we get to Her, the healthier we are.” Her natural magnetic and gravitic field is guiding us all the time, affecting everything from regulating cell division to buffering emotional states. Just because a compass magnet points somewhere while you hold it inside a sky scraper does not mean you are not being bombarded on many levels with many unhealthy electromagnetic effects.

What Is Magnetism

Everything is composed of atoms. Atoms each have electrons spinning around their centers, which is the nucleus. The spinning electrons give off an energy field. Doctors use Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) medical diagnostic devices to map the energy patterns. Everything has energy, and is continually broadcasting it, no matter how faint. Atoms have polarities. Any energy broadcast has a structure to it.
The electron cloud created by the movements, or atomic spin flow signatures, of all the atoms in an object, as they whirl round and round, combine and determine the charge and polarity of anything we observe. When two bodies that are substances made up of piles of atoms approach each other, they are, at some level, either repelled or attracted to each other, according to the aggregate polarities of their internal energies and relative strengths of their fields.

As an example, place two separated magnets under paper, and sprinkle iron filings on top of the paper, and you will “see the invisible to your eyes" lines of force connecting them. Pull the magnets apart, and their fields stretch. Pull them even further apart, so they are acquiring more space, until reaching the limit of attraction. Eventually the dancing fields stop dancing, collapse, and get smaller, staying only around their own magnets. Where did the extra space previously inside their stretched fields go?

Just like people attracting each other, the fields reached out and expanded. Denied each other by being too far apart, they withdrew their energy back into themselves. Expansion, then retreat, over the same real estate. Where did the extra space that was used within the extra large while connected energy fields go during their collapse? It is ejected out as gravitons, and their movement all together creates gravity fields.

In the same way that a generator makes electricity when the spinning armature's coils of wire cut the magnetic lines of force, gravity fields create magnetism. The connective lines of force found in the attraction of the earth and sun and other planetary bodies is continually being cut due to the orbital/rotational movements of the planets. On a huge mass scale, when the dancing attractive fields between our planet and others are cut, the freshly unconnected-to-anything-else lines of gravitic force between the planetary bodies have nothing attracting - and therefore stretching them, and as a result, they snap back to their respective sources by collapsing. Ejected out of the collapsing space are gravitons whose movements cause mass particles to line up in a polarized fashion, creating what we call our planet’s magnetic fields.

Electricity and magnetism are intimately related. An electric current of gravitons and electrons flowing through a wire creates a magnetic field around the wire. A magnet moving, cutting the lines of force, near a copper wire can cause an electric current to flow through the wire. Electricity, magnetism, and gravity are a triune of forces, and any two can be used to make the other one. In fact, electricity and magnetism are composed of gravitic elements, so one could say there is in existence, ultimately, only intersecting gravitic wave front fields behind and causing all physical structure. And, behind that, are the cause point reality matrices of higher dimensional pure love (attractive force) consciousness. In order to use that deep of a cause point level effectively and repeatedly in this world, it presently takes a highly developed practitioner able to use more of themselves than we readily accept.

Am I off our topic of healing magnets? Not at all. In our too busy to think about all this consciousness stuff existence, we seek other physical solutions instead. We use devices that are a beneficial reflection of the positive aspects of this universal consciousness-creating-form phenomenon, and seek to manipulate our physical world and our health as best as we can. This brings us right back to our here and now article’s subject of oxygen and magnets.

Mahatma Ghandi said: “If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” What he describes as sincere belief sounds like magic, but thoughts and beliefs are radiated into the atmosphere from our brain cells at around 5 milliwatts of power and on a frequency of around 435 MHz. These broadcast thought energy structures are polarized and attract and repel each other like magnets. Art meets science.

The magnetic, gravitic, energy input radiating from a magnet is believed to overpower and re-align the “confused“ or “inharmonious” tiny cellular atomic fields associated with disease, and these fields then re-create and positively affect all the structure that is held in place by them. If magnets are applied repeatedly, the practical world evidence shows an incorrect cellular field situation is eventually replaced by a more structured field “memory” (that of the simple aligned magnet) for the duration of the treatment. The energy, and polarity structure, being borrowed from a magnet used in a treatment, attempts to re-align disharmony temporarily. The magnet is repeatedly applied enough times until the cellular fields line up, or get used to being in harmony. Once in harmony on their own, the cellular fields will attract and sustain the proper form, leading to more cellular harmony. But don’t go overboard. Magnets should NOT be worn continually, meaning 24/7 all day every day. We are far more complex than a simple North South field in any one spot. However, that being said, over the many years I have often personally witnessed the benefits experienced by many people from their repeated application of the aligned fields of a magnet or magnetic field throughout a treatment period, which stimulates a re-harmonization and increased blood flow to affected areas. The body wants to survive, and as part of its adaptability, seems to be able to draw energy from any harmonious energy source, such as prayer, meditation, pulsing fields, crystals, food, light, minerals, oxygen, and in this case, magnets. With enough energy, the body functions better, and increases flows.

Health Benefits

The increased blood and lymph flow brings oxygen and minerals in, and washes the toxins out. Oxygen is unique in that it is a gas, but it is a gas able to be influenced by magnetism! So, If you direct one pole toward an area, laying a particular side of a magnet on it for a while, the spot will attract oxygen! Use the opposite pole, and since our blood and lymph fluids both contain oxygen, you repel the oxygen and push the fluids out, detoxifying the area. Many will use one pole for a while, rest, switch to the other, rest, switch, etc., pulling the oxygen in, pushing the oxidized toxins out.

According to Wolfgang Ludwig, Sc.D., Ph.D., and Director of the Institute for Biophysics in Germany - Magnetic Field Therapy is a method that penetrates the whole human body and can treat every organ without chemical side effects. Magnetic Field Therapy has been used effectively in the treatment of: cancer; rheumatoid disease; infections and inflammation; headaches and migraines; Insomnia, and sleep disorders; circulatory problems; fractures and pain; environmental stress. Dr. Ludwig adds that magnets affect the electromagnetic-balance of the human organism and contribute to disease prevention.

Permanent magnets, once magnetized, keep their magnetic charge indefinitely, unless disturbed by fire or a severe impact. People ask, “How long should I wear my magnets?” Sometimes results are felt in as little as 30 minutes, more often in several hours. Sometimes, it takes several days to feel results, but combine your magnet application with oxygen supplementation and colon cleansing for best results, and give the body periods of rest, in–between magnet applications.

Magnets are used on humans and animals, but, because they are so specialized in their application, pregnant women should avoid their use. Do not use with a pacemaker, or transdermal delivery devices. Keep magnets away from credit cards. Do not use on open wounds. What about using them after bone replacement surgery? Always consult with your physician. Most bone replacements are made from titanium and are not affected by magnets. With a sprain, Chiropractors advise that cold packs are best at first, so the sprained area should be iced for a day, or two, to reduce swelling before encouraging more fresh fluids into the area by magnet application. In summation, magnets are a wonderful adjunct healing tool in the home, and within the arsenal of the natural practitioner. Remember supplement with oxygen and clean your colon too!
